One year ago today!

One year ago we arrived in Makanda to take on our new life running the Makanda Inn, now known as Makanda Inn & Cottages. The past year has been exciting, meeting all of our great guests, providing the level of service they expect and more.

We did manage to get in some fun during the year canoeing on the Cache River wetlands, hiking in Giant City State park, getting out to taste the wine, playing bingo at the Cobden Peach Festival, seeing the super moon at Bald Knob Cross. We have also enjoyed trying many of the local restaurants in the area and developing friendships with some of our local business peers. We are looking forward to getting out this winter for some more great hiking and area exploration trips.

A few projects did get done not the least of which was rebuilding the stone portion of the front steps. Mom & Dad came to visit from NJ for their anniversary in June! Was so nice to be able to spend time with them and take them around the area.

With a year under our belt we can reflect back on all the great times that have been had by us and by all the folks who have enjoyed this awesome property. From big reunions to a family of four, and the many couples here for a romantic getaway. There is no better satisfaction than to see our guest laughing, talking and totally disconnecting from the everyday hustle and bustle.

We would like to thank Greg and Shauna Wellman, the owners of the property for this great opportunity and all of their support. We consider them friends and are proud to be the guardians of this oasis they have built.

The sign reads there is always, always, always something to be thankful for as you walk in the door.
